The Stroehles were a prominent family of German ancestry in Gilpin County history. Like many folks who settled here, they were immigrants escaping the turmoil in Europe during the 1800s, looking for ways to better themselves and to raise their families in peace and freedom. We will tell the story of several generations of the Stroehles as they build businesses, hold prominent positions in their communities, pursue their love of music, and ultimately pass from the scene. But their beautiful home still stands on Chase Street in Blackhawk, complete with its grand piano and period furniture, and is managed by the Gilpin County Historical Society.
