Workshop Description:
Adult musicians who are fluent on their instruments and who can read music at a basic level or above are invited to come out and play! Under the direction of acclaimed saxophonist, bandleader, composer and educator Khari Allen Lee (KhariAllenLee.com), this non-audition performance class is a chance to hone skills in ensemble performance and improvisation while networking with potential collaborators and passing a good time in a light, supportive atmosphere. It is perfect for returning Grown Folks Lab Band (GFLB) musicians as well as new ones who want to check out Musicollaborative's GFLB experience with less of a time commitment then the 6-week course demands.
11a-2p we'll explore a minimum of 3 traditional New Orleans favorites, playing from charts as well as by ear, followed by a brief performance for friends and family in the recital hall. Registrants will receive copies of the charts, and will have the option to bring their own lunch or, for a small fee, to order for delivery from one of our community partners to enjoy on site 12:30-1:00.
Participants must provide their own instruments with the exception of keyboard and drums which will be available on site, along with vocal PA and amps for guitar and bass. To maximize "airtime" only two spots are available for all rhythm section seats as well as vocals, and wind instruments are limited to four.
