Mary Fahl with YOBC: A Crossing Classical Boundaries Concert
This year singer-songwriter Mary Fahl will headline a Crossing Classical Boundaries concert with YOBCs Symphony Orchestra. The season-capping concert will take place in the new Life Sciences Auditorium at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown. Mary Fahl first achieved fame in the mid-1990s as the lead singer and co-founder of the folk-rock/adult alternative group, October Project. Mary's musical inspirations for her solo career have expanded to include classical, medieval and world music. Her expressive, transcendent voice. Marys music appeals to a wide range of musical enthusiasts. Musical selections for this special concert (only her second concert with full symphony orchestra)have been fully and professionally orchestrated by John Lissauer.
As a solo artist, Mary has released several compelling albums, including the fantastic re-working of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and her wonderful, original studio album "The Other Side of Time." She has also written and performed songs for several major motion picture. Her most recent album Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, winner of the Indie Acoustic Album of the Year award, is a collection of 24 tracks recorded live at one of America's oldest vaudeville theaters that captures the soaring, soul-permeating vocals and musical breadth that makes the Mary Fahl concert experience what the Portland Press called "soul-permeating." Fahls elegant, cinematic songs draw on classical and world music sources, American art song, as well as thinking-mans folk-pop which she performs with an earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that Boston Globe critic Steve Morse calls a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms.
