The Rape of Lucretia
Britten's intense and mesmerizing opera retells the Ancient Roman myth of the chased and faithful Lucretia, raped by Tarquinius, the Etruscan Price of Rome. Her subsequent suicide secures her position as a symbol for revolution against the monarchy and forevermore as an icon of a victim of social and gender hierarchy.
British touring company 'Magnetic Opera' make their American debut in New York with this tragic tale and a wonderfully talented New York cast. Director, Thomas Henderson, presents an emotional conflict between the endless and various artistic retellings of this iconic myth and the personal pain of the victimized Lucretia.
Running at The National Opera Center on December 11th and 12th, this exciting new company and production are not to be missed.
