Songs of Good Cheer - KC
Songs of Good Cheer - KC is a community holiday sing-along to benefit the Alzheimer's Association-Heart of America Chapter's Music and Memory Program, which uses personalized playlists of music, iPods, and earphones to bring Alzheimer's and dementia patients back to their memories and ability to communicate.
The sing-along is based on the original Songs of Good Cheer held each year at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music and sponsored by the Chicago Tribune. The Tribune and the Old Town School have graciously permitted us to us the name for our Kansas City program. We are also grateful to Mary Schmich and Eric Zorn, Tribune columnists who founded this wonderful warm evening of singing.
Songs of Good Cheer - KC will take place on Friday, December 4, 2015, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Unity Temple on the the Plaza. The evening will feature a band composed of Walter Bryant, Rod Fleeman, Bryan Hicks, Kent Rausch, and John Blegen and vocalists including Havilah Bruders, Angela Hagenbach, and Kirsten Maggi, who will lead us all in a collection of seasonal holiday songs. The band and the singers are there to help us all lift our voices the way many of us used to do during the holiday season while gathered around the piano. The Master of of Ceremonies for the evening will be the genial Joel Nichols, co-host of KSHB's "KC-Live" show. It will be an great evening, and we hope that you can join us to sing and support a great cause.
Children under twelve accompanied by a paying adult are free.
