The Beauty All Around: Songs by Will McMillan
"Will McMillan has a voice of silk, a clear mind, and a poet's heart." Amanda McBroom, songwriter ("The Rose")
Will is a singer and songwriter who has soloed with pops orchestras, rock bands, jazz combos and a cappella groups.
After taking a class called "Ukulele for the Almost Musical" in 2010, he began writing ukulele-driven songs in earnest using Apple's GarageBand software and his trusty laptop computer.
With help from the gifted pianist/composer Doug Hammer, McMillan has translated his Garageband renditions into playful piano/vocal arrangements which they will perform at one of their favorite venues Third Life Studio which has a great Steinway grand piano!
There will be two sets of music, light refreshments, and many opportunities to sing-along.
This program is gratefully presented with support from the Bob Jolly Charitable Trust!
A member of SAG, AFTRA and Equity, Will has performed as a featured vocalist at venues from Cambridge to Shanghai including Scullers Jazz Club, Sanders Theatre, John F. Kennedy Library, Middleast Cafe, TT the Bear's, Arlington Street Church, Diamond Jim's, Johnny D's, Jacques, the Ocean's Inn (Provincetown, MA), Hi-Hat Club (RI), Inn on Newfound Lake (NH), Spring Island (SC), Westbeth Performance Center (NYC), Hotchkiss School (CT), Star Island (NH) and Yin Par Le Garcon Chinois (Shanghai). For many years he hosted Will & Company, a series highlighting local singers and songwriters at the Blacksmith House in Harvard Square, earning an IRNE award from the Independent Reviewers of New England for Best Cabaret Show in a small venue.
McMillan has done commercials, voice-overs, and made-for-TV movies and was even a standby for the role of Theo in the original production of Pippin on Broadway in the early 1970's.
Locally he has appeared on WCVB-TV, WGBH radio, WBZ radio and WERS radio. He has released seven recordings: If I Loved You with singer Bobbi Carrey and pianist Doug Hammer; Reel One with vocal quartet "At The Movies;" Simple with guitarist/songwriter Jonathan Keezing; and Whimsy: The Allston Years, Will Sings Sondheim, Sketchbook #1, and Blame Those Gershwins with pianist/composer Steve Sweeting. You are welcome to visit his blog, AMusicalifeOnPlanetEarth.WordPress.com, and web site, WillSings.com.
You can also watch him perform on YouTube by searching "Will McMillan."
Doug Hammer is a musician, composer, arranger, and engineer who has produced music for commercials, film, video, and theater. He has also released seven solo piano CD's of his own compositions, and his recording Travels won "2011 Album of the Year" from Whisperings Solo Piano Radio.
