Chris Peles in Association with Workshop13 Proudly Presents another installment of the Singer/Songwriter Series in The Grand Hall featuring MIEKA PAULEY, JOHN MAYOCK and JOON
MIEKA PAULEY possesses a voice that flows like good whiskey. She puts her guitar in the trunk of her car and does an average of 150 live shows a year criss-crossing the country. She follows her own vision for her music with her soul/blues/rock/acoustic/alternative style that has brought comparisons to Ben Harper, Cat Power, Neko Case, Patty Griffin, Martin Sexton and others. Mieka describes her music as "mainstream indie rock" and feels the contradiction perfectly describes her obsessions.
Mieka began as a solo artist in Boston. Pauley's career pursuits have helped her win prestigious competitions like Cosmopolitan's Fun Fearless Female Rock Star of the Year, the first ever Starbucks Emerging Artist Award, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival Songwriter Showcase, the Rock Boat/BMI Song Contest, NEMO/Starbucks Songwriter Competition and the New York Songwriters Circle Songwriting Contest.
She has shared stages with household names like Natasha Bedingfield, KT Tunstall, John Legend, Edwin McCain, Ben Kweller, Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw, the Black Eyed Peas and Citizen Cope while earning herself slots at must-see music events (Newport Folk Festival, South by Southwest,Rites of Spring in Nashville and CMJ) and high-profile gigs like singing the national anthem at three Red Sox games. She's also been featured on BBC London Radio, PRI's "Mountain Stage" and the music session blog Daytrotter.
Her song "Devil's Got My Secret" can be heard in the movie Peace, Love and Misunderstanding, which stars Academy Award winner Jane Fonda, Oscar nominee Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Olsen. . JOHN MAYOCK is an exceptional songwriter with haunting and familiar melodies, poetic lyrics that are smart and insightful. John's critically acclaimed original music is edgy, aggressive roots-rock that combines folk sensibilities and rock sexuality with the sparkle of pop and the twang of true country. John, with his band, The Homesteaders, have won numerous competitions in his home state such as The Connecticut Music Award and The Hartford Advocate's Music Awards. His music is currently in rotation on many radio stations throughout America.
JOON was formed by guitarist/vocalist, Carl DiFederico and bassist Ryan Guhne in a basement in Enfield CT. and began to form their own original style. Adding Rhode Island native, drummer Luc Gendreau and fellow Enfield native, vocalist Olivia Gaines (American Idol, Season 12), they expanded into a full four piece live band, securing gigs throughout New England. Powerful vocals, melodic rhythm guitar and funky drive make up Joon at its core. Each member of Joon is driven and inspired by many different genres and artists, which has led the band to successfully create their own evolving sound. Playing original music often compared to the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, and Stevie Wonder, Joon always strives to deliver great music that people can vibe to.
A portion of ticket sales go to WORKSHOP13, a nonprofit organization that supports the development of visual and performing artists and cultivates a community that appreciates the Arts.
