After Funk & The Cosmic Factory - Saturday 10/10/15
AFTER FUNK
AfterFunk.ca

After Funk has been causing a ruckus on the Ontario music scene with their unique sound and infectiously fun shows since their inception in March of 2011. The Toronto based power-funk group consists of Yanick Allwood (keyboards & vocals), Jaime Rosenberg (drums), Justin Bontje (bass) and Phil Tessis (guitar) who are frequently joined by a horn section and other collaborators. Their self titled debut EP was released in January of 2014 and was mixed and mastered by Alan Evans of Soulive. An increasingly busy touring schedule led to opening spots for groups like Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, Dumpstaphunk, Kung Fu, The Nth Power and Walk Off The Earth. The band was also selected as Electric Forest's Instrumental Forester and played two sets at the festival where they were featured alongside The String Cheese Incident, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Zeds Dead, Flying Lotus Stephen Marley and more.

"I first booked After Funk after they came highly recommended via the agent of a renowned internationally touring funk act. They blew me away live. Their thundering, original style features distinct, contemporary flavours mixed with all the necessary tried-and-true elements of classic funk, for an overall sound that grooves hard and moves audiences. These young virtuosos have a deep pocket and tremendous chops typically only exuded by bands twice their age. They are a kind, sensible and professional group of individuals to work with. A wonderful band in all respects."
- Christopher Tory, LiveNation

March 2015 will mark the end of their third international tour with a hometown show at Toronto's Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in support of The Nth Power. This year After Funk plans to release a single as well as a series of videos. Their high energy, engaging live performances are quickly establishing them as one of North America's premier up-and-coming touring funk acts. THE COSMIC FACTORY
CosmicFactory.bandcamp.com

The Cosmic Factory is a young Providence, Rhode Island-based trio that extends past the barriers of typical genres. With roots in everything from classical to classic rock to blues to funk to metal (and the entire in-between spectrum), they are making their mark on music with a heartfelt, honest sound, a passion for the art, and a devoted following of "Freaky People" who look forward to dancing and singing along at their high-energy shows.

In 2008, quick-fingered guitarist and local legend Lee McAdams sought local musicians to complete his project, Lee McAdams & The Cosmic Factory. As a talented young musician, Lee was inspired by classic masters such as Jimi Hendrix and Jerry Garcia, and the complex and groovy music they made. After Lee witnessed the dissolve of his first band, Love Money, (formed in 2006) and he began the hunt for like-minded talent, playing with a group of various local musicians on a rotating basis for two years. Finally, two of his friends from high school were recruited, the trifecta was solidified, and The Cosmic Factory was born.

Mike Baker first fronted the band Judastrain (previously Lost Tide) for almost five years, playing guitar and singing lead vocals, until the band split in 2010. Baker started singing after his friends heard a cassette recording of his deep and soulful voice. They urged him to use those smooth vocals to complement his bass skills and flair for funk. It made for a powerful combination perfect for The Cosmic Factory, and created a sound much larger than you'd expect from the 5'8", 135 lbs Rhode Islander. Mike later went on to form his solo project, Sgt. Baker & the Clones (also featuring Lee McAdams on lead guitar) drawing influences from bands ranging from Black Sabbath to Days Of The New to Clutch. He has also teamed up with Consuelo's Revenge singer Amanda Salemi, forming a duo dubbed Wake N Baker.

Dewey Raposo started playing drums after being captivated by the band Nirvana. The drummer's taste quickly took some unexpected turns and before long Dewey found himself forming his first metal band, Synchole, which did not survive past high school. Raposo then went on to join the death metal outfit Razing Valhalla in 2009, which also disbanded shortly thereafter. After struggling to find his place in the music scene, Dewey's unique style was embraced by McAdams and he was recruited for The Cosmic Factory, bringing a high-energy beat with a booming impact. His powerful drumming with an air of ease has followers screaming his name at shows, notably during his solo performance in the fan favorite, "Sweet Flow." Dewey can also be heard slamming drums for hardcore punk band Black Celebration, staying true to his heavy roots.

While they each have other projects concurrent, The Cosmic Factory has found a special place in the heart of Rhode Island music fans, frequenting popular clubs such as The Spot in Providence, RI and The Met in Pawtucket, RI. After recording their first demo the band appeared with many talented acts including The McLovins, Jabooda, Pacific Dub, The Psychic Paramount, Fear Nuttin Band, and The Expendables. They even brought their following to Providence's Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel, opening for Fungus Amungus.

In June of 2013, The Cosmic Factory collaborated with Castle Entertainment in Providence, RI for the production of their debut album "Welcome To The Cosmic Factory." Recorded by engineer Matt Tarpy, "Welcome To...." showcases the band's talents in a variety of genres including (but not limited to) funk, reggae, hard rock, and blues. After a stellar CD release show in Providence at their home venue, The Spot, "Welcome To..." has been reaching the ears of Rhode Islanders at a rapid rate and is sure not to disappoint.

The Cosmic Factory has devoted fans belting out their lyrics and blaring their CD, and their live shows bring large, excited crowds, many of which have already seen the band countless times. It's easy to fall in love with their genuine sound and even more genuine personalities, and many fans become hooked after their first show. They come from all over the region to feel their unique sweet sound, never daring to miss the opportunity to see Lee shred guitar, Mike in an animal costume, or Dewey take his hair down.
As their reach continues to expand, these three guys from Providence are making their mark on more than just the local music scene.
