"The Last Five Years" by Jason Robert Brown
Amal Bisharat, founder and director of Moonlet Theater Productions, will be presenting an intimate and riveting performance of "The Last Five Years" by Jason Robert Brown. "The Last Five Years" is an incredibly moving, emotional piece about the 5 year marriage and breakup of a young New York couple. The story is woven together with mostly solo pieces. The show begins with Cathy's perspective starting at the breakup and moving back in time to the couple's first meeting. We get the male perspective from Jamie, who begins on a high note with the first meeting and then moves forward in time to the breakup. Time and space are represented with complete fluidity and the play is at once entertaining and heartbreaking.

"The Last Five Years" will be Moonlet Theater's first production. It is also worth noting that Moonlet Theater raised funds for this production with overwhelming community support- raising over $10,000 in 30 days through kickstarter! The community is behind this project. You will not want to miss this show.

"The Last Five Years" is comprised of a two person cast, and our production will star Jean-Paul Jones and Amal Bisharat.

JEAN-PAUL JONES is a countertenor and educator currently working in the Bay Area. He received his BM Vocal Performance from Cal State Northridge and can be seen performing with many Bay Area ensembles including Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra Chorus and The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys. More recently he has made a name for himself in the SF drag scene under the guise of Effervescence Jackson; a delightfully unpredictable and unforgettable performer. He has been in productions of Hair, La Cage Aux Folles, Le Nozze Di Figaro, Dido and Aeneus and even sang in L.A. Opera's production of Porgy and Bess! He is a very versatile performer and looks forward to sharing his gifts with the audience for "The Last Five Years".

AMAL BISHARAT is an actress and soprano/mezzo soprano with a BA in Music and Theater from the University of Minnesota-Moorhead. Most recently, she appeared in "Knitting", a World Premier performance at the 2009 San Francisco Fringe Festival, where she performed an original song. As a choral singer for 9 years, she has performed with the San Francisco Bach Choir, and in numerous recitals and private events. She also has 12+ years experience as a songwriter/singer/bandleader for San Francisco indie band, Bias Tape. In 2011, she had the opportunity to perform an original song/voice over for a West Virginia Tourism Board Commercial. She has many years directing experience, having been the Director and Musical Director for the drama program at Lafayette Elementary School in the Outer Richmond District of San Francisco for 10 years. She is very much looking forward directing "The Last Five Years". And as for directing herself in the role of Cathy? Well, she is hoping "herself" can follow direction!

"The Last Five Years" also includes a musical arrangement for a small orchestra - Piano, Violin, Cello 1, Cello 2, Guitar, and Bass. We will be featuring our orchestra members as a significant part of this production. The music is complex and contemporary, written in a style that is raw and emotional and incredible from start to finish.

I'd like to introduce you to one of our instrumentalists- our piano player, just to give you a sense of the high level of performance you will be witness to!

DAN CROMEENES is a versatile musician who has performed professionally as a countertenor soloist, choral singer, and piano accompanist. Originally from southern California, he studied piano and voice at Biola University. He received his Master's degree in accompanying at East Carolina University, where he made his countertenor solo debut with Capella Antiqua. After returning to Biola as Staff Accompanist for a few years, he joined Chanticleer for its 2005-06 season, singing concerts across Europe, Japan, and the United States. Dan continues to perform throughout the San Francisco Bay area both as accompanist and singer. He has played for Santa Clara University, West Bay Opera, Livermore Valley Opera, BASOTI, Santa Clara Chorale, Lamplighters Music Theatre, FOGG Theatre, and has worked as a freelance accompanist and coach. As a singer he has performed with various ensembles, including American Bach Soloists, Philharmonia Baroque Chorale, Clerestory, Pacific Collegium, San Francisco Renaissance Voices, and Bach Collegium San Diego. As a countertenor soloist he has performed multiple times with the Santa Clara Chorale, including Handel's Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Vivaldi's Gloria, and Mozart's Vesperae solennes de confessore. With Marin Baroque he has performed Handel's Dixit Dominus, Blow's Venus & Adonis (Shepherd/Huntsman), and Purcell's Dido & Aeneas (Sorcerer). Other solo performances include Handel's Te Deum in A Major with San Francisco Lyric Chorus; Bernstein's Chichester Psalms with various ensembles; Bach's Johannes-Passion with Bay Area Classical Harmonies (BACH); new editions of Alessandro Scarlatti's works with Arcadiana; and early music recitals on SCU's Faculty Recital Series and at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. In 2014 Dan participated in the American Bach Academy as a countertenor soloist.
