Join us in an exploration of history and the sacredness of identity through the experience of poetry, music, and eurythmy.
This full evening program opens dramatically with a speech piece inspired by Chief Seattle calling us to awaken to our responsibility to this earth and to our fellow human beings. An accompanying tone piece by Bela Bartok and In Memoriam by Gyorgy Ligeti deepen this call - and continues to develop through Sweet Honey in the Rock by E. Ethelbert Miller, music by Kurtag and ESV's pianist, Marcus Macauley and Wild Geese by Mary Oliver.
The program continues with light tone pieces, humorous pieces of poetry, and a lovely colorful piece by Dmitri Shostakovich, Op. 87 Prelude & Fugue No. 7 in A major. The program ends with an inspiring poem by Hilda Doolittle and a glorious closing with Ballade in G minor by Frederic Chopin.
There will also be a children's performance of "The Little Donkey" beginning at 7pm. $3 Suggested Donation at the door.
The Little Donkey by the Brothers Grimm is the much-beloved story of the heaven-sent little donkey who is a king's son, but who is, to his mother's chagrin, in donkey form. There's never been such a musical and charming donkey he even learns to play the lute with his little hooves. In despair about his donkey form, he ventures out into the wide world. His adventures really begin at the court of a king who has a soft spot for the little creature, as well as a most beautiful daughter. Come and see what happens to the little donkey at the royal court. Will he find his heart's desire?
