The King Shall Rejoice!|Handel:Messiah Part III
NECS and Chamber Orchestra conclude the season with a celebration of Handel. In 1727, King George I decreed Georg Frideric Handel (originally of German decent) to now be a naturalized British citizen. Handel's first commission in his new land was to compose four Anthems for the Coronation of George II and Queen Caroline later that same year. These four Coronation Anthems have been part of every English Coronation since then. Today's concert features two of Handel's Coronation anthem's. the King Shall Rejoice and Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened. Rounding out our yearlong exploration of Messiah, the concert concludes with "Worthy is the Lamb", the majestic final chorus from the world's most beloved oratorio.
