JULIE BUTLER CHANTEUSE presents A TRIBUTE TO THE INCOMPARABLE HILDEGARDE!
I met Hildegarde in the dining room at Fontainebleau when she sat down with me for breakfast. I was 17 years old.I had NO idea who she was. When she told me she was friends with George Gershwin, Cole, Irving and Noel, I was too embarrassed to ask.Nevertheless, she encouraged and inspired me to sing.
Since then, I've learned that she was a CULTURAL ICON, crashing through multiple glass ceilings. With the help of her life partner and manager Ann Sosenko, she set trends in style, marketing and fashion. While it was once said that she was the most imitated performer in the world, I wouldn't be so presumptuous as to try and imitate her.
I will be singing music from her repertoire and sharing some of her story. Join me along with pianist, Bobby Schiff, as we Celebrate the life of Hildegarde, featuring music by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, Noel Coward and Irving Berlin, to name a few.
