ANNIE and ROD CAPPS
On a musical journey that began in 1982, Annie and Rod Capps have earned sincere praise for their songwriting and musicianship, with two albums topping the Folk-DJ charts, multiple Detroit Music Award nominations, and as 2-time Kerrville New Folk Finalists (2012 & 2010).
Their latest CD, Searching for Neverland, recorded at Big Sky Recording in Ann Arbor by Geoff Michael and mastered by Glenn Brown at GBP Studios in E. Lansing features a stellar cast of highly sought after Michigan players;Jason Dennie (Thunderwude) on mandolin and harmony vocals, Dan Ozzie Andrews (Cold Tone Harvest) on bass, Mike Shimmin (the olllam) on drums and Drew Howard (Madcat's Midnight Blues Journey) on pedal steel and dobro as well as the great jazz drummer, Pete Siers (Paul Keller Orchestra) on several tracks.
Defining their "style" is not easy. It never ceases to be a moving target as they work continually to evolve with surprising new influences and inspirations, always striving for true musical and songwriting maturity. None-the-less, for more than 30 years they've been cultivating a symbiotic sound that reflects their deep and intuitive understanding of each other, delivering songs about broken things and poignant little ponderings with a rootsy vibe, a touch of twang and a soulful groove.
"Annie and Rod Capps write complex, winding melodies that fit Annie's delicate voice perfectly. She sings with a relaxed, clean Midwestern twang, sliding you into the middle of lives and situations that are always interesting and dotted with real insight." Dave Siglin, The Ark
