Centering Prayer Movie and Discussion (FREE for students)
"A Rising Tide of Silence"
Contemplative prayer has been practiced in monasteries for centuries, and is now being taught to lay practitioners as part of Centering Prayer. This movie is a reflective portrait of Father Thomas Keating, Trappist monk and former abbot, and co-founder of Centering Prayer. Interweaving historical footage, and extensive conversations with Fr. Keating himself, the film traces a fascinating personal and spiritual life. There is actual footage of groundbreaking meetings between Fr. Keating and the Dalai Lama, as well as leaders of Islamic and Jewish religious groups. The inspiring message of Centering Prayer is "deep unity."
Following the film there will be a discussion of Centering Prayer, and review of numerous resources available through local and national chapters (www.contemplativeoutreach.org), and even the King County library. Learn about facilitator training for those who want to start their own groups.
Tickets are $10 for general admission. Students with current ID are admitted free. You may bring a sack lunch and stay for a discussion after the video from 12:00-1:00pm Parking is free.
Please note: This event is not sponsored by Bastyr University, a "fragrance free" facility.
