Following a successful first season in 2014, 21st Century Chorale returns for its second annual summer concert, this year featuring the Midwest Premiere of Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds' "Whispers on the Prairie Wind."
The concert will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the NEWLY RENOVATED historic Studebaker Theater at the Fine Arts Building, 410 South Michigan Avenue, just north of Roosevelt University in Chicago.
"Whispers on the Prairie Wind" is a six-movement work variously based on a Lakota Sioux legend and on the poetry of both William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) and George Pope Morris (1802-1864). It describes the prairie on fire, an account of a tragedy that occurred in the mid-1800s, and is also based upon texts from period newspapers. The piece has been described as "like singing a Willa Cather novel."
The program further reflects 21st Century Chorale's well-established range and depth with works by composers Shulamit Ran, Kevin Memley, Orlando di Lasso, and Eliza Gilkyson as well as Billy Joel's "Lullaby" and Phil Azelton's arrangement of "When I Fall in Love."
There is something for everyone!
Tickets will also be available at the door for a small premium: $25 ADULTS $20 SENIORS/STUDENTS
