More info about Urban Improv Trio: At age 12 Sandy Greenbaum started playing the drums. His father, a former drummer, taught him a drum solo by drummer Gene Krupa from the song called Sing, Sing, Sing. This is a composition by Krupa and Benny Goodman, featuring a long drum solo. He showed him a theme and how to play variations on that theme. This opened a new door to music and his first exposure to improvisation. Even in his first rock bands his favorite part of playing was soloing on the drums. Inspired by many 70's rock and jazz greats, he found a voice of inspiration defining his musical style.
Moving to Seattle in the mid 90's,he formed a jazz quartet called Urban Improve. He found some fellow musicians with the same desire to improvise music. Their music covers a wide array of styles from swing and Latin to funk and soul. The musicianship is of the highest quality, bringing some of the top players in the Northwest to the bandstand. Urban Improv plays songs from the great American songbook and the Real Book of jazz standards, and along the way playing some of their own compositions.
