KWMR & Tim Weed present: John Reischman and the Jaybirds
Grammy Award winning and Juno-nominated artist John Reischman is "one of the world's undisputed masters of the mandolin" according to Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine. Capable of swinging between re-inventions of traditional old-time, bluegrass, and compelling original tunes, Reischman is renowned for his impeccable tone and taste. In the late 1970's, he helped define the New Acoustic movement as an original member of the Tony Rice Unit, recording several influential albums on Rounder Records.

Reischman and his Vancouver-based band have released 5 critically-acclaimed albums, and Billboard says, "John Reischman and The Jaybirds are in their prime." Dirty Linen magazine says "gorgeous three part harmonies" And SingOut! Magazine says "seamlessly excellent . . . with a rare ability to produce music that is simultaneously traditional and contemporary, the Jaybirds are a band that continues to hit on all cylinders."

The band consists of Reischman on mandolin, Jim Nunally on guitar, Trisha Gagnon on bass, Nick Hornbuckle on banjo, and Greg Spatz on fiddle.

Banjo wizard Tim Weed will open the show. Weed's music has been featured on NPR, and David Grisman calls him the "Ali Akbar Khan of the banjo... everything from hardcore bluegrass to Bach." The Marin Independent Journal says Weed is "a multi-instrumentalist who also possesses a trained tenor voice with jaw-dropping range."
