The Jacksonville Rotary Club Foundation are pleased to announce that Forrest Wood, "outdoor legend" and father of the modern bass boat, will speak at a fundraising dinner on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Hamilton's in Jacksonville. Social/Cocktails at 5:00 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm, and program at 7:00 pm.
Wood is known worldwide for his success in the sport fishing industry. In 1968, he founded Ranger Boats, now the largest manufacturer of bass boats in the nation.
In 1971, Wood qualified for the first Bassmaster Classic, and the following year, Ranger was named "the official Bassmaster Classic boat." It remained so through 2000.
Even after selling Ranger Boats in 1987, Wood remained a legend in the sport fishing industry. In 1996, Operation Bass, a tournament organization, was renamed using his initials, FLW. The FLW tournament circuits have since seen major success in boosting the popularity of sport fishing and have been broadcast in some twenty-five countries around the world, appearing on ESPN, Fox Sports Network, Matchroom Sport, and the Armed Forces Network.
Anyone interested in bass fishing should make reservations in Jacksonville for the weekend of April 10-12. Mr. Wood's presentation on Saturday night will be followed by the annual Jacksonville Rotary Club Bass Tournament on Lake Jacksonville on Sunday, April 12.
The dinner and bass tournament are both fundraising activities for the Jacksonville Rotary Club Foundation and the Jacksonville Rotary Club, which contributed more than $21,000 to local causes last year.
The banquet is the kickoff fundraiser for our club's Centennial Service Project, which will take place in 2017-2018.
