An exciting musical collaboration teams up chamber music greats Michael Lim (violin) and Melia Watras (viola) with jazz artists Cuong Vu (trumpet) and Ted Poor (drums) to perform an evening of new written and improvised music.

Hailed by Gramophone for playing with "delicious abandon," and described as "bewitching" by The Seattle Times, violinist Michael Jinsoo Lim enjoys a dynamic musical career as concertmaster of the Pacific Northwest Ballet, a soloist, a chamber musician, a recording artist, and a teacher. He is also a performer of new and experimental music, performing as a member of Open End, an ensemble specializing in contemporary music and improvisation. He currently serves on the faculty of Cornish College of the Arts, where he teaches violin, viola, and chamber music.

Violist Melia Watras has also been praised by Gramophone as ʺan artist of commanding and poetic personalityʺ and described as "staggeringly virtuosic" by The Strad, distinguishing herself as one of her instrument's leading voices. As a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist, Watras has championed the works of living composers throughout her career. She has commissioned, premiered and recorded numerous new compositions, while appearing at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, and Alice Tully Hall. Watras is currently Associate Professor of Viola and chair of Strings at the University of Washington, where she currently holds the Adelaide D. Currie Cole Endowed Professorship.

Cuong Vu is widely recognized by jazz critics as a leader of a generation of innovative musicians. A truly unique musical voice, Vu has lent his trumpet playing talents to a wide range of artists including Pat Metheny, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Dave Douglas, Myra Melford, Cibo Matto, and Mitchell Froom. As a youngster, Vu's intense dedication and love for music led him to a full scholarship at the New England Conservatory of Music where he received his Bachelor of Music in Jazz studies with a distinction in performance. As an associate professor and chair of Jazz Studies at the University of Washington, Vu was awarded the Donald E. Peterson Professorship and as assistant professor in jazz studies, he was awarded the University of Washington's prestigious Distinguished Teacher Award and is a Donald E. Petersen Endowed Fellow.

After graduating from the Eastman School of Music in 2003, drummer Ted Poor moved to New York City, where he has made a deep impression on the jazz and improvised music scene. Modern Drummer describes his playing as "adventurous, truly dynamic, and forward-thinking." Jazz Review writes, "Ted has an uncanny ability to shape the music and a refreshingly unique, organic approach to playing the drums." This unique approach has caught the ears of many of jazz's most established musicians and quickly placed him amongst those drummers most in demand. He is currently an Artist in Residence at the University of Washington.
