Trout Variations....and Variations
An Evening of Music, Food, and Wine

The Colonials, emerging as a stand-out ensemble in NYC, presents a truly unique evening of music and gastronomical pairings. The musical program takes a new look at an old favorite of the chamber music repertoire: Franz Schubert's famous Piano Quintet in A Major, D. 667 ("The Trout"). This full performance of the "Trout" quintet will include new variations on the fourth and most famous movement by celebrated NYC-based composers Brad Balliett, Lembit Beecher, Jonathan Dawe, Paul Epstein, Molly Joyce, and Gity Razaz.
Exceptional wine pairings from the Austrian-German regions will be curated by Étienne Guérin, wine director of M. Wells Steakhouse, whose establishment is one of only three steakhouses in NYC to be awarded a Michelin star in addition to being in the top 10 of NYC's standout wine lists (New York Times, 2014).
The distinctive food menu, thoughtfully paired off an Austrian theme and Mr. Guérin's wines, will be presented by Tim Cavaretta of bittergreen, who places an emphasis on sourcing the freshest local ingredients the region has to offer.
The Colonials is a unique, mixed-period chamber ensemble specializing in historically-informed period performance, classical chamber music, and recently-composed works. Their vision is to juxtapose old and new music while providing a fresh and exciting perspective for audiences. Through interactive experiences during their shows, informal and intimate discussions over food and drink, The Colonials transform the concert experience.
