Event

The John Hartford Memorial Festival
The John Hartford Memorial Festival (www.johnhartfordmemfest.com) focuses on music ranging from Newgrass to Bluegrass, Jamband to Stringband, and friendly competition amongst fiddlers and songwriters. (Write the right song and win tickets!)Aside from our stage acts and the amazing campground jams that evolve and revolve around the clock, we also offer workshops, kids events, a parade, great food and crafty arts!  This event celebrates the life and legacy of the late John Hartford, is only going to get better, but not too much bigger, we plan to cap advance ticket sales at 2500 so order now and take advantage of our Early Bird Specials. The Bill Monroe Music Park, Bean Blossom, IN is historic and legendary in that for 55 years, music events have taken place there, and musical legends have been created. In keeping with that tradition, we are headlining two legendary acts, Hot Rize with alter ego band Red Knuckles and the Trail Blazers, and The New Riders of the Purple Sage, also, legends in the making, The Hackensaw Boys and Split Lip Rayfield!
Hot Rize- It didn't take long after Tim O'Brien, Pete Wernick, Nick Forster, and Charles Sawtelle first appeared onstage together in 1978 for the bluegrass music world to realize that the Colorado band, Hot Rize, was something special. By the time they bowed off the stage as a full-time act in 1990, they'd not only climbed to the top of that world as the International Bluegrass Music Association's very first Entertainers of the Year, but their stature was recognized across the board, with a nomination for a then-new bluegrass Grammy, a four-star album review in Rolling Stone, tours across four continents, and a legion of up-and-coming, broad-minded young musicians ranging from String Cheese Incident to mando monster Chris Thile, learning their songs and singing their praises. After the untimely passing of guitarist, Charles Sawtelle, the band members each went separate ways, carving a legacy of their own.
