Handel Extravaganza (A Summer Sounds Event)
Summer Sounds concludes with a grand celebration of Handel, one of the most cosmopolitan musicians of his day. Born in Germany, studying in Italy, then composing and performing throughout Germany and London, Handel's name was recognized across Europe. Singers and instrumentalists from around the world converge on the beautiful Blackfriars Playhouse for selections from numerous Handel works, including arias, overtures, concertos, and choruses from Agrippina, Dixit Dominus, La Resurrezione, Theodora, Rodelinda, Ode for St.Cecelia's Day, Coronation Anthems, and more.
Abigail Haynes Lennox (soprano), Ian Howell (countertenor), Derek Chester (tenor), Michael Haag (bass), and the Madison Singers will join the Staunton Music Festival Players lead by artistic director Carsten Schmidt.
