Darkness into Light
Saturday, March 14 | 8:00pm Ridgewood United Methodist Church
Sunday, March 15 | 5:00pm St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church
Dusty Francis, conductor Eric Brenner, countertenor Joshua Groffman, Composer-in-Residence
"Darkness into Light" brings two major works and a stunning new piece by Joshua Groffman to Ars Musica audiences. While the Russian Army was besieging Nazi-occupied Budapest, Zoltán Kodály was forced to hide in the darkness of a cellar for safety, where his luminous Missa Brevis took shape. Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms both soothes and excites the spirit with its tranquil setting of the twenty-third psalm in clear, youthful tones set against complex choral rhythms as only Bernstein could so masterfully write.
Be sure to join us for a free Preconcert Talk with Joshua Groffman, Composer-in-Residence, one hour before the concert
