Straight Talk Fundraiser & film screening for "middle of nowhere"
Come out to support Straight Talk Support Group on October 24th at the Durham Convention Center at the Durham City Center Marriott.
We will be screening the award-winning film middle of nowhere, which tells the story of Ruby, a medical student who drops out of school to focus on her recently incarcerated husband's well-being. The film was written and directed by Ava DuVernay, who was the first African-American woman to win the Best Director Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. You can learn more about the film here: http://www.middlenowhere.com/
Tickets are $25. Proceeds from the event will support Straight Talk's ongoing efforts to provide services for the friends and family members of individuals in prison. Specifically, money raised from the middle of nowhere fundraiser will help Straight Talk build a resource center for families dealing with the incarceration of a loved one, fund our share-a-ride program, operate our crisis line, and develop our programming.
