Requiem: The Journey of Souls
St. John's Episcopal Cathedral Denver, CO
Joy, sorrow, and life's ultimate mysteries combine in ethereal splendor as Ars Nova presents selections from three great Requiem masses (a choral form that has attracted composers through the centuries as a vehicle for profound personal expression). Featuring Renaissance composer Jean Richaforts Requiem for 6 Voices; Herbert Howells' 1936 Requiem (considered such an intimate work that he withheld it from publication for 45 years); and Ildebrando Pizzettis Messa di Requiem, in which the composer weaves an intriguing twentieth-century web over Gregorian melodies.
Note: Venue box office & will call opens at 6:50 p.m. Seating begins at 7:00 p.m. (subject to possible delay). Late arrivals must wait to be seated once concert has started. Neighborhood parking. Inclement weather cancellation notice at 303-499-3165.
