Music from Stanley presents Jeremiah James Gang and Hillfolk Noir Live at the Old Pen at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at the historic Old Idaho Penitentiary, 2445 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the gate. Presale tickets will be available beginning Thursday, Sept. 3, at brownpapertickets.com. All ages. Beer and wine (I.D. required).
The concert, to be held in the courtyard of the Old Pen where Rage Against the Machine infamously performed in 1996, will be recorded. The Jeremiah James Gang and Hillfolk Noir both plan to release live albums of the show.
Jeremiah James', second album, Idaho Cowboy, was the No. 1 local release of 2008 at the Record Exchange, Idaho's largest independent record store, and finished among the store's Top 10 overall sellers for the year.

Performing either as a full band with a rotating cast of local players, a duo of Travis and Ali Ward, or Travis solo, the self-described "death folk" band Hillfolk Noir plays country-tinged, delta-bluesed, psychedelic swamp-shack rags that are equally spooky and toe-tapping.

ABOUT MUSIC FROM STANLEY: Music from Stanley showcases an eclectic mix of Idaho's best musicians. It consists of a live concert series hosted by Jeremiah James that takes place on Sunday afternoons June through September at the tranquil Redfish Lake Lodge in Stanley, Idaho, and a radio show hosted by Ryan Peck that airs on KBSU and KISU in the fall. Artists such as Josh Ritter, Tiff Merritt and Ellen Jewell have graced the Music from Stanley stage.
ABOUT THE OLD PENITENTIARY: The Old Idaho Penitentiary (idahohistory.net/oldpen.html) was built in 1870, less than 10 years after the Idaho Territory was formed. Over its century of operation, the penitentiary received more than 13,000 convicts, of whom 215 were women. Spurred in part by conditions that sparked a general riot in 1971 and an even more severe riot in 1973, the inmate population was moved to a modern penitentiary south of Boise and the Old Idaho Penitentiary was closed on Dec.3, 1973. The site is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
