Brazilian pianist Jairo Geronymo is an old friend of the Second City Chamber Series, having performed on the Series in 2001 and 2004 when he served on the piano faculties of Pacific Lutheran University and later Western Washington Universtiy, and most recently in 2010 when Geronymo, Rønning, and Treat performed a program entitled "Urban Legends" featuring works by Stravinsky, Schoenfield and Piazzolla.
Jairo Geronymo initially left the Puget Sound to join the faculty of Ithaca College in upstate New York, but circumstances would later draw him to the German capitol of Berlin. Today, Dr. Geronymo is a member of the piano faculty at the Leo Kestenberg Musikschule in Berlin, a school founded by one of Weimar Germany's most prominent music educators and musical advocates.
Jairo Geronymo has always been one to keep in close contact with his many "homelands," as he is frequently to be found performing in Brazil as well as in the eastern and western United Statesfor this summer's concert, he offers us a taste of all of his "homeland" music, both native and adopted, with music from Europe, North America, and South America.
