TUESDAY at St. Peter's Church, 320 Boston Post Rd, Weston WEDNESDAY at Chapel at West Parish, 129 Reservation Rd, Andover THURSDAY at Lindsey Chapel, 15 Newbury St, Boston
What subject is more at the heart of music than Love? And -n so many forms new love, simultaneously tender and nervous; fervent devotion between the lover and the beloved; or unrequited love achingly painful or vexingly annoying depending on your perspective. We present various facets of the subject with settings of the sacred and beautiful Song of Songs, chansons praising an unattainable object of desire, and contrasting with the not-too-serous laments of the "mal mariƩe" - the unhappy young wife of an old man. People have long turned to music to express emotions that words alone cannot. These expressions of love and longing from the Renaissance have a familiar ring even in our modern ears.
Matthew Groves (sackbut), Elizabeth Hardy (shawm, dulcian, recorder), Rigel Lustwerk (cornetto), Liza Malamut (sackbut), Daniel Meyers (sackbut, recorder), Catherine Stein (shawm, dulcian, recorder), Matthew Stein (dulcian), Daniel Stillman (shawm, dulcian, sackbut, recorder).
