The Cinema Department at San Francisco State University presents the Bay Area's premier student cinema event, the 54th Film Finals, held for the first time ever at the renowned Sundance Kabuki Theatre (1881 Post Street at Fillmore) on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 (doors open at 6:45pm, event starts at 7pm). For complete details visit sffilmfinals.com.
A San Francisco State tradition for over half a century, Film Finals serves as the Cinema Department's annual exhibition of premier student work. The festivities begin one week prior with Film Previews, a two-day marathon screening held on-campus (May 12/13), in which each and every submission is evaluated by a student-faculty jury in addition to audience voting. Those earning the highest marks will be showcased at the 54th Film Finals.
Before the screening begins, a special ceremony will take place to award $5,000 in Cinema Department scholarships in addition to announcing this year's nominations for three prestigious department-hosted awards.
The 54th Film Finals is a celebration of SFSU's rich cinematic heritage, a heritage that has seen alumni earn Oscar nominations for fifteen consecutive years. Film Finals provides a supportive vessel for this emerging talent to exhibit their innovative work to the public, often for the very first time. So please come join us in rejoicing the future of cinema and enjoy "A night of film at its scrappy, heartfelt essence." -San Francisco Bay Guardian
