CAPTAIN KIRK DOUGLAS and Mark Kelley (The Roots) with Ricc Sheridan From Hip Hop grooves to psychedelic soloing, the guitarist for The Roots has demonstrated his versatility in countless performances with The Roots as well as on Jimmy Fallon's show. Here, joined by fellow band member, bassist Mark Kelley, and drummer Ricc Sheridan, Capt'n Kirk puts on his family man persona and gets ready to boogie with the kids.
SONGS FOR UNUSUAL CREATURES Quirky author and composer Michael Hearst and his band present Songs For Unusual Creatures: a highly-geeky A/V presentation of some of the most bizarre animals that roam the planet. From the Australian bilby to the deep-sea magnapinna squid, to the microscopic tarde, the creatures are brought to life with such oddball instruments as theremin, claviola, daxophone, and stylophone. Michael's Unusual Creatures can also be found on a companion book as well as a CD and a PBS series featuring guests such as the Kronos Quartet and toy pianist Margaret Leng Tan. Fun for the whole family!
Featuring: Michael Hearst, Ben Holmes, Allyssa Lamb, Kristin Mueller, and Jonti Siman.
CHICHA LIBRE Chicha Libre is a Brooklyn collective made up of French, American, Venezuelan and Mexican musicians who play a mixture of Latin rhythms and psychedelia inspired, in part, by vintage cumbia from Lima and the Amazon. Chicha Libre regularly performs in Europe and Latin America. Their music has been featured on various TV shows and independent movies including Homeland and Weeds as well as the Simpsons' 20th anniversary special. The band was cited by MTV as one of the world's preeminent Tropical Psychedelic band.
BLUE LIGHTING Blue Lightning is a rock band from Brooklyn featuring young musicians and their band leader. The band performs a diverse range of classic and modern rock-pop songs. Blue Lightning plays with a soul and sound beyond their years. Band members are local Park Slope kids ranging in age from 2nd grade to 6th grade.
Featuring: Louise Wandesforde, Gordon Wandesforde, Francesca Edesess-Hardy, Joseph Stack, Oliver Branham and Jon Neufeldrange.
GILMAR GOMES Bahia native and percussionist superhero Gilmar Gomes is best known for working with the likes of Shakira, Gilberto Gil and Angelique Kidjo - and currently playing with Enrique Iglesias. He has also been stepping up as a bandleader both here and in Brazil, singing his own repertoire, accompanying himself on a variety of instruments and surrounding himself with fantastic musicians.
