George Winston Solo Benefit Concert for Guitars in the Classroom
This is George Winton's first return to Mississippi to benefit free music training programs for teachers in Head Starts and schools in the Gulf Coast region with Guitars in the Classroom.

He will present a Solo Piano Benefit Concert at Christus Victor Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 7:00pm. Best known for his melodic rural folk piano, George Winston is also steeped in finger-style guitar traditions. Inspired by the seasons, Winston plays over 100 solo piano concerts a year. In concert George will be performing songs from his latest CD, GULF COAST BLUES AND IMPRESSIONS  A HURRICANE RELIEF BENEFIT, as well as selections from his seasonal favorites AUTUMN, DECEMBER, WINTER INTO SPRING and SUMMER. His concerts feature a variety of styles, including his melodic folk piano, stride piano, New Orleans R&B piano, Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts pieces and more.

The concert will benefit Guitars in the Classroom- =a program that inspires, trains, and equips pre-kinder through 8th grade teachers to provide daily hands-on music integration that transforms classrooms into more vibrant, creative and effective learning environments. "It is great to be associated with everyone, everywhere with Guitars in the Classroom. They are making avenues available to help children (and adults) to get in touch with their musicality and creativity. It is important to have these avenues available so that when someone is ready to learn, or is simply curious, they can - either pursuing it seriously, or putting it in their personal library for later reference to start again."

Concert goers are encouraged to bring a donation of non-perishable food to support the The Lord Is My Help Food Bank. Collection barrels will be available in the lobby.

Christus Victor Lutheran Church is located at 755 Bienville Blvd. ( Hwy. 90), Ocean Springs. General Admission:  $15.00,  Children 12 & under: $10.00
