Peter Benjamin with Butler and the Maid - March 1, 2014
Peter Benjamin (known to Harborites as Peter Schatz) will showcase his original music at Hoquiam's historic 7th St. Theatre on March 1, 2014. Show Time 7:00-9:30pm www.7thstreettheatre.com
A Montesano High School class of 93' alum, Peter has toured and performed for years all over the greater Northwest, bringing his original artistry to big cities and small towns alike. Recently, he's been dreaming about returning to his native Harbor-area to share a passion for music that was born and cultivated in the rainy and rustic enclaves of his youth.
Benjamin's musical visit is in many ways the concert that he never got to perform during his high school and junior college days when he founded and co-founded a slough of metal and progressive rock bands-a reflection of his early teen influences. This could be because of a historical lack of venues. "There have always been a lot of music in the Grays Harbor area but it seems like there's never been a really good venue to support young local bands down here. Now, when I come back to visit family and friends, I try to get a sense of what kind of music scene there might be on the Harbor; whether or not there is a circuit of venues to play and what kind of bands are out there right now. "
Could the 7th St. Theatre become a center for supporting local talent as well as touring bands? Benjamin's recent dealings with the Theater gives him some inspiration. "I feel like the 7th St. Theatre is the perfect choice for bands that travel a lot and want a welcoming space with some real character for their friends, families, and fans to enjoy the music. If the right bands approached this venue with enthusiastic, pro-active promotion, this could be a great place to showcase original local music as well."
Benjamin has spent much of his career in music as a collaborator and lead guitar player in bands like Seattle-base alternative group Edisyn and Northwest country alternative favorite The Sammy Steele Band. In recent years, Peter has taken his experience of sacrifice and commitment to the artist's lifestyle and poured them into his own richly lyrical and emotive brand of contemporary folk rock. In July of last year, Benjamin released his second full-length solo record called The Victorian which beautifully portrays his innate sense of "perseverance, exuberance, nostalgia, and hope." Peter will be joined by Hoquiam's own The Butler and the Maid for their show at the 7th St. Theatre which is sure to make for a wonderful and exciting evening of folk rock fit for all lovers of good music.
