Please join us for our 'Bring on the Spring' party full of Cuban music! The evening begins with a concert (Charanga Danzon) in the elegant living room of the Rainier Chapter House, followed by dancing to live music (Grupo Ashe) in the upstairs ballroom.
CHARANGA DANZON: founded in 2008 by violinist and educator Irene Mitri, is a unique Cuban music ensemble. This fluid ensemble of wonderful Seattle-based musicians finds its basis honoring the tradition of strings in Cuban music, with a repertoire including traditional charanga, son/danzon, cha-cha-cha, classical, and jazz. www.charangadanzon.com
Members of Charanga Danzon include: Irene Mitri (violin, ensemble director), Fred Hoadley (piano, tres), Francisco Medina Jr. (percussion), Michael Nicolella (guitar), Jim O'Halloran (flutes), Andy Schloss (percussion, radiodrum), Pedro Vargas (percussion), Ben Verdier (bass). Special guest: Lance Lu (shekere)
GRUPO ASHE: Pedrito Vargas y su Grupo Ashe brings the true sabor of timba to the pacific northwest. Formed in 2008, the group is made up of some of Seattle's most prominent latin and jazz musicians. The group's unique mix of Cuban rhythm, salsa beats and funk sensibility creates an infectious, high-energy atmosphere that is sure to lift everyone off their seats to move to the music. Grupo Ashe's specialty is timba, a contemporary Cuban music style that combines the elements of traditional Cuban music, salsa, funk, jazz, rock and hip-hop. www.pedritovargas.com
Note: Tickets are available for concert only, dance only, or both. A similar event was originally scheduled for December 19, 2008 but was postponed due to weather. Charanga Danzon concert goes from 7:30-9, Grupo Ashe dance party goes from 9:30-11:30.

Day of show tickets will be on sale at the door for an additional $5 per ticket. (Door prices: Concert only $25, Dance party only $25, both concert and dance party $35. Kids 12 and under $15 for the evening. |
