2014 WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race
The WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization. Our race is solely supported by through memberships, donations and the generosity of our sponsors & advertisers. Our Mission is to present an annual sled dog race, conducive to generating tourism and promoting education, that follows the spirit and the proud history of the working sled dog in Northeastern Minnesota.
This wonderful 2-day event has historically drawn over 85 mushers,200 handlers, 2,000 spectators, and over 250 volunteers to the Ely, Tower, and Cook regions. Moreover, the WolfTrack's reputation as a unique and family orientated race has drawn mushers and fans from Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Canadian Provinces in ever increasing numbers. The WolfTrack Classic is not only one of Minnesota's premier mid-distance sled dog races, it also promotes education, tourism and commerce for our region. Plus, our working sled dog experts tour area schools and events presenting fun and educational programs, providing a chance young and old alike to see and learn about these amazing K-9 athletes.
The 2014 WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race will be held on February 22nd, & 23rd, 2014. The fun begins on Saturday, February 22nd, with Vet Checks -we invite the public to come and meet the dogs participating in either the 6-dog race or the 10-dog race.
Bright and early Sunday morning the racing begins with the 10-dog teams leaving the Ely Starting Line starting at 9:00 AM. These teams race from the City of Ely to the City of Tower and on to the City of Cook, a distance of some 65 miles.
The 6-dog teams leave the starting line beginning at 10:30 in Ely, MN and race through the Superior National Forest and open wilderness along some of Minnesota's most beautiful State & Federal Trail Systems. The teams race 30-miles to the City of Tower, MN and the Finish Line.
