Matt Roberts - New Percussion Music
Orlando native Matt Roberts will perform a concert of contemporary classical percussion music in The Space, in Orlando's Mills 50 district on January 12th. The virtuoso percussionist and new music specialist is currently finishing graduate studies in Alaska, recently performed in the premiere of composer John Luther Adams' acclaimed new work Inuksuit, and is a veteran ensemble performer of Orlando's Accidental Music Festival.
Roberts' concert at the Space will feature Frederic Rzewski's Fall of the Empire, a work for percussion and spoken word, Pulitzer-Prize-Winner David Lang's The Anvil Chorus, and original music by Roberts himself. In Rzewksi's work, the instrumentation is wildly different from movement to movement, including seedpods, a radio, lawnmower blades, and spoken texts by Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain. ---
