The Third Half
Charlotte Jewish Film Festival film
Directed by Darko Mitrevski
In this Macedonian film inspired by true events from World War II, the rag tag Macedonia Football Club competes for the championship of the Nazi Football League.
Determined to build the best football club in the country, Dimitry hires the German-Jewish coach, Rudolph Spitz, to galvanize his team, but when the first Nazi tanks roll through the city and Rebecca, the beautiful daughter of a local banker, elopes with his star player, all Dimitry's plans change.
Neither a war movie nor a Holocaust movie, it is more of a soccer epic: a story of misfits, pariahs, losers and idealists, who during a turbulent time realize their game is more than just a game it becomes a battle between Good and Evil.
