DCTV Presents a Made@DCTV Screening:
A WOMAN AMONG BOYS
Friday, January 23rd, 7:30pm
DCTV, 87 Lafayette Street, NYC
A Woman Among Boys is a riveting new feature documentary by Emmy award-winning filmmakers, Jon Alpert and Matthew ONeill. It chronicles the experiences of Ruth Lovelace, the only woman coach of a boys team in New York City's toughest basketball division, at Boys and Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
While she faces unique challenges, Coach Love has built the Kangaroos into a powerhouse with playoff appearances in every year of her tenure. Players on her teams work to overcome significant obstacles both on and off the court, some battling homelessness or having a parent in jail, while still battling for victory on the court.
Love and her assistant coach, Elmer Anderson, once star athletes at Boys and Girls High themselves, know where the kids are coming from and where they have the potential to go. Theres more at stake for their boys in basketball than the score of the game scholarships are on the line.
With intimate access to Love, Anderson and the team, A Woman Among Boys follows the Boys High Kangaroos through the 2007-2008 season as they face off archrival Lincoln High School for the top spot in NYC basketball.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, DCTVs co-founder, Jon Alpert, and Matthew O'Neill.
