House Concert featuring Stephen Saxon and Gordon Lustig
Stephen Saxon (voice) and Gordon Lustig (guitar) have been leading High Holy Days services since 2011 at Napa's Congregation Beth Shalom. They have introduced non-standard repertoire into the liturgy, including music by Leonard Cohen, Michael Jackson, James Taylor and other popular artists. They also contribute original. This will be their first collaboration in a concert setting, so expect to hear some of the songs they've included in services as well as new material and a few originals. Gordon is a graduate of the Dick Grove School of Music, where he studied under the likes of Nelson Riddle, Henry Mancini, Billy May and Dave Grusin. He composed for television shows produced by Howie Mandel, the late John Ritter and Diane English. He is musical director of Congregation Beth Shalom in Napa. Stephen has been a cantor and trumpet player in the Bay Area for decades. He has performed with top names from the jazz, klezmer and classical communities, including Chanticleer, Kitka, the San Francisco Symphony, John Williams, Michael Tilson Thomas, Gunther Schuller, John Williams, Frank Zappa, Michael Brecker, David Grisman, Bobby McFerrin, Shlomo Carlebach, the Klezmorim, KlezX and the Klezmer Conservatory Band.
Performance takes place at a private residence in Berkeley, CA. Advanced registration required. Patrons will receive address upon completion of online order or registration with JMF office at info@jewishmusicfestival.org or 510-848-0237 ext. 118.
