Thiago Vasquez: Flamenco Guitar Recital
Thiago Vasquez makes his Chicago debut with an intimate performance at the Instituto Cervantes Auditorium. Observing purist technique and style, Thiago performs a varied repertory of traditional flamenco guitar with some singing thrown in for good measure.
Based in Jeréz de la Frontera, Spain, Thiago Vasquez was born into a gypsy family from Seville. He began to play guitar at the age of eight with his father and grandfather, accompanying singing and dance within the family. At the age of 14 he began his studies in classical music, subsequently obtaining two postgraduate degrees at the University of Music. He has worked as a guitarist and singer alongside a number of well-known flamenco artists, such as José Méndez, Fernando de la Morena, Antonio el Pipa, Ana Fernández, Rocio Parilla, Talegón de Córdoba, Manuel de la Malena, Mateo Soleá, Manuela Ríos, etc. He has performed in peñas, tablaos and dance academies across Spain and in international theatre performances in countries such as Canada, Japan, the USA, the UK, Belgium, France, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Holland, Brazil and Perú.
