The Bay Area and DUB MISSION debut of one of U.K.'s most exciting dub/reggae acts! Master producer Prince Fatty brings the riddims. His label Fatty records, produced on vintage analogue equipment, gives classic reggae and dub sounds his own unique twist. Hollie Cook brings the punky reggae party. The daughter of a Sex Pistol and a member of the reformed Slits her vocals recall the golden years of Lovers Rock. Horseman is a veteran of the U.K. reggae scene. On this night he will be adding his lyrical diversity with quick fire chats and invigorating chants.
Producer/riddim master Mike "Prince Fatty" Pelanconi has worked with a diverse repertoire of artists and labels, including reggae legend Gregory Isaacs, Luciano, Capleton, Little Roy, Winston Francis, Dennis Bovell, Dub Syndicate and Adrian Sherwood. And that's just his reggae resume. Inspired by the optimistic, laid-back vibe of Jamaica in the early 1970s, Pelanconi created an alter-ego nicknamed "Prince Fatty," meant as a tongue-in-cheek reference to King Tubby. In 2005 he created the an instrumental track "Nina's Dance" for clothing company Stussy's 25th anniversary. Following its unexpected success, Pelanconi decided to create an album-length homage to what he considered one of the most vibrant eras in Jamaican music. For Survival of the Fattest, Pelanconi assembled a "super group" of reggae greats, including afrobeat saxophonist Bukky Leo, drummer Style Scott from the Roots Radics, Nostalgia 77's horn section, and Hammond organ by Bubblers from Ruff Cut Band. Guest vocals were provided by Hollie Cook, as well as Winston Francis, and Little Roy. The album was recorded on vintage analogue equipment to preserve the signature sound of reggae and dub records. Pelanconi also strove to update the sound by speeding up tempos and attempting to push the boundaries of classic dub and reggae by referencing the modern influences of hip-hop (especially evident in the cover of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice", as well as Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya"). This was followed in 2010 with Super Size, featuring vocals from Little Roy, Dennis Alcapone, Natty and Winston Francis. In 2011 he released Prince Fatty Meets The Mutant Hifi Return Of Gringo!, and Hollie Cook's self-titled debut, followed in 2012 by Prince Fatty Versus The Drunken Gambler featuring a guest appearance from Dennis Alcapone. www.princefatty.com www.facebook.com/princefatty Prince Fatty discography: www.discogs.com/artist/Prince+Fatty
The daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and mother Jeni who was once a member of Culture Club, Hollie Cook is a major winner in the musical-genes lottery. But it's her supple, seductive vocals that deserve the most attention. In 2006, she joined the re-formed Slits and performed on the band's EP of that year, Revenge of the Killer Slits. She went on to collaborate with Ian Brown and Jamie T, and recorded her self-titled debut album in 2011 with Prince Fatty. Hollie Cook, on Mr. Bongo Records featured George Dekker of The Pioneers and guitarist/bassist/ producer extraordinaire Dennis Bovell. The record was followed by Prince Fatty presents Hollie Cook - In Dub the next year. www.holliecook.com www.facebook.com/holliecookmusic Hollie Cook discography - http://www.discogs.com/artist/Hollie+Cook
