Children's Filmmaking Workshop
Saturday, August 3, 10 & 17  10:30 am - Noon at Cinema Arts  Ages 5-13
Teacher: MICHELLE CIARDULLI, Long Island Motion Picture Arts Center & Museum

August 3
The first session teaches line animation where students who have a passion for drawing and film can experience both. Students will be able to create and watch their very own animation on real 35 mm and 16 mm Motion Picture film. Their face will light up while they use the light boxes to make their cell drawing come to life. The films are shown on a 16mm projector and a portable 35mm projector. The cell tracings are shown on a computer program from a laptop.

August 10
The second session will have students partake in this interactive hands-on workshop that teaches the principles of stop-motion animation. Students will create a short stop-motion animation like the works of Tim Burton. We bring the movie experience to the students as they use moveable puppets on a film set. Using a digital camera and movie lights, their animation is recorded one
frame at a time, just like the professionals do in Hollywood. The students will learn how the process of stop-motion is done in films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, the films of Wallace and Gromit, and Coraline. Their finished work is shown after the session.

August 17
The third session teaches movie special effects using LIMPACM's support staff and green screen chroma key set, including video cameras, special effects video mixers, monitors, movie lights and green screen. The students will experience a side of Hollywood that they have never seen with movie special effects. Using the green screen, be a part of a movie set that will take you flying over
Long Island, making objects float in the air, and even disappearing. Experience how green screen technology is used in movies, such as, Harry Potter and many other films. Watch and Learn the history of movie special effects from past to present.
