Bluestocking Film Series Spring 2013
The Bluestocking Film Series is a biannual screening event of short narrative films that pass the Bechdel Test, a measure of gender representation in film. This innovative screening series is presented by Gitgo Productions, a woman-owned production company and takes place in the beautiful, culturally vibrant city of Portland, Maine.
The Bluestocking Film Series' mission is to encourage and promote production by filmmakers of narrative films that feature strong, complex women characters in leading roles, characters as flawed and complicated as their male counterparts.
Provocative and edgy, dramatic and often funny, these films many of them award winners on the festival circuit explode stereotypes and shake off viewer expectations about what kinds of stories women tell about themselves.
The Bechdel Test requires that a film have at least 2 (or more) named women characters who talk to each other about something other than a man. This spring, the Bluestocking Film Series expands to include a symposium on the Bechdel Test on Sunday, May 19 from 4:00-6:00 pm. Panelists include Bitch Magazine's co-founder Andi Zeisler and Her Film Project's Kyna Morgan (via Skype). The symposium is FREE for Bluestocking Film Series ticket holders and the community.
