Litha: Maureen McMullan Opens.
Aaron Jones (Old Blind Dogs), fiddler extraordinaire Claire Mann, and two dynamic Germans, Gudrun Walter and Juergen Treyz, come together to form a truly dynamic band. Multi instrumentalists, versatile singers, and a repertoire that draws from traditional Scottish, Irish and contemporary roots music, makes for high-impact concerts, and this one at the Burren Backroom promises to be a beauty.
The huge variety of possible instrumental and vocal combinations gives Litha an exhilarating, ever-changing sound that takes the listener on a journey not only through their home countries but also through the common ground shared between these two great cultures and beyond.
The Burren Backroom series launched in October of 2011 but has already created many memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was created by well-known traditional musicians Tommy and Louise McCarthy in Davis Square, Somerville, Masachusetts.
Maureen McMullan who wowed the audience with her performance at our recent St. Patrick's Day Celtic Sojourn, will open.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets are $23 in advance, with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
