Some Girl's Birthday @ Free Candy
SGBP welcomes its biggest artist lineup yet to BK's trillest venue for a night of eye candy, ear candy, and free candy. Full artist lineup below. Gallery opens at 7 with full cheap red wine treatment. Cash bar from then on (ATM on site!). RSVP to somegirlscandy@gmail.com
LIVE FOOTAGE Bubbling up in Manhattan and Brooklyn's live music scene since 2008, LF plays a brand of music entirely its own. Bandmembers Mike Thies and Topu Lyo build loops and improvise on the fly, ranging from original compositions that might remind you of Aphex Twin to party jams by Dr. Dre. You can catch them every Wednesday rubbing shoulders with the beautiful people at Soho Grand and every Sunday on Doyers Street at Apotheke. They'll be setting the vibe early on at SGBP. http://livefootagebrooklyn.com/
HERBERT HOLLER People get called a "New York City legend" a lot these days, and often times it's not quiiite warranted. But after holding down the Freedom Party at Le Poisson Rouge every Friday for 10 years now, we're gonna go ahead and give Herbert that legend status. Freedom's been awarded the best party in not just New York, but nationally (Paper Magazine 2010). Herbert's now brought the act to Chicago, where he spins a midwestern Freedom once a month. He also just returned from DJ'ing the Sundance Film Festival. As they say in the business, the man's got chops. We're very excited to have Herbert handle the funk/dance/boogie portion of the evening. https://twitter.com/herbertholler
JOVAN JOHNSON Jovan, aka eBone Underground, is an up-and-coming jazz trombonist truly on his grind. In a world of pre-programmed beats and over-produced radio...uhh...bangers, Johnson's music comes as a welcome relief to open ears. Jovan plays a trombone over his own beatboxing, improvising in a way that you have to be see to understand. http://eboneunderground.bandcamp.com/
ANDREW DEVLON SGBP's resident DJ since jump street, he's also writing this hype piece and trying to stay humble. You can catch him at Donna in Williamsburg every Monday night, and rocking various house parties, nightclubs, and dayclubs around the city in between. Add him on Facebook or follow him at /Andrew_Devlon to keep in touch on the social media webs. AD's going to be opening up and shutting down SGBP.
GNOSCERE We're very excited to be introducing an art exhibit curated by http://theBlaaahg.com/. This art and culture source has brought together a stellar lineup of young talent to Free Candy's gallery space. You'll be able to check out the art throughout the party, but the free wine gallery treatment starts at 7. - Featured Artists: Charlie Rubin: http://charlierubinstudio.com/ Mauricio Vargas: http://cargocollective.com/mauriciovargas/ Nathan Bett: http://www.nathanbett.com/ Andrew Piccone: http://andrewpiccone.com/ Michael Ellis: http://www.parade-ground.com/index.php/artists/michael-ellis/ Nicol Leddington
