Horseshoes & Hand Grenades Hometown Get-Down Album Release Party
Horseshoes & Hand Grenades was formed through many great nights with many great friends in one of the finest river towns in the midwest. We all met in Stevens Point and what has been created since has not only been musical, but it's been magical in many ways. The people that come together to enjoy the music truly create the "vibe" that we have all grown to enjoy so much. As we release our second full-length album, "This Old Town", we are real excited to throw a big ol' party with a bunch of great friends and great musicians. We hope this will be a night to remember for years to come. If you're feeling it too, go ahead and join us. Leave your troubles at the door and be sure to wear your party pants. Maybe even your party underwear. I mean, Mustache closes the night...
Horseshoes & Hand Grenades (10:30-12:15): Hailing from the great town of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, HHG plays something like progressive high-energy old-time folk music. With strong roots in old-time and bluegrass, the band has formed it's own unique style born from the diverse musical backgrounds and interests of the five friends who make up the band. All born and raised in the great state of Wisconsin, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades began playing music and their earliest shows in the spring of 2009. Since then, the band has shared the stage with the Infamous Stringdusters,Yonder Mountain String Band, Charlie Parr, Pert Near Sandstone, Art Stevenson and Highwater,.357 String Band, The Big Wu, and many more. Being mostly inspired by rivers, valleys, good friends, and good drink, this five piece is as sturdy as any midwest riverbed and will make your toes tape from sundown to sunrise.
Natty Nation (9:00-10:25): Hard Roots Rock Reggae & Dub--this is the unique blend of music that is Madison, WI's Natty Nation. The independent all original touring & recording outfit is one of the leading forces in USA based reggae. Their messages of spreading positive vibrations, peace, love, building community, & universal spirituality have been ringing out since Natty's inception in 1995. JAH Boogie and his backing band's tight but fluid, rootsy but funky, beautiful but gritty, righteous but real vibration is clear to anyone listening to their music either live in concert or on their stereo. It's almost impossible not to dance at a Natty Nation show. Every concert is a different experience. Their energy is infections & their dubtastic jams are complex, yet their overall message is simple: spread the positive vibration.
The Mustache (12:15 to 1:45): In a time where live music has been dominated by mainstream labels, new technology, and worst of all, hairless upper lips, Wisconsin's finest funk/dance party band has kept strong roots in classic and contemporary funk music which is ideal for producing a flourishing, thick and bushy, party atmosphere. Along with their desire to create the funkiest music possible, the band also exudes a satirical sense of humor in a Spinal Tap-esque fashion with comical characters and outrageous stage antics. Don't miss this Mustache ride!
The Hi-Matics (8:00-8:50): The Stevens Point-based Hi-Matics are an indie folk-rock band with many influences. Melting together elements of folk, blues, bluegrass and rock and roll. The band formed in the summer of 2011 when its founding members Dan Waterman, Graham Prellwitz, and Brad Prellwitz were asked to perform at a Fox Cities music festival. They took on the name The Hi-Matics for the show and it has stuck with them ever since. The Hi-Matics performed basements and local venues around central Wisconsin, doing modest self-recordings. With the addition of Augie Dougherty on banjo and guitar, and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Weiss in the spring of 2012 The Hi-Matics were complete. In early 2013 they began recording their first full length studio album due to be released this spring!
