"The Yellow Ticket" is a German film that tells the story of a young Jewish woman from Russia who hides her identity in order to study medicine. This classic silent film addresses important issues that were widespread during that era, including ethnic and religious discrimination, human trafficking, and poverty. Acclaimed Polish actress Pola Negri is the star of the film.
World renowned klezmer violinist Alicia Svigals and piano virtuoso Marilyn Lerner will perform the original film score (composed by Ms. Svigals). After the film, an expert speaker (Johannes von Moltke, Associate Professor of German and Associate Professor of Screen Arts and Cultures at the Univ. of Michigan) will put the movie into historical context and answer questions from the audience.
