AKA and the Heart Hurt Goods are a hip-hop band out of Olympia, Washington. Frontman and founding emcee AKA began collaborating with vocalist Nathalie Elam and keyboardist Andrew White in 2011 while recording his standalone album, Heart Hurt Good, set for release February 2013. Heart Hurt Good, produced by Matt Smokovich, features many members of premier Olympia hip hop-crew Hostalion.
After collaborating on the album, Andrew, Nathalie and AKA began performing live sets together, with DJ Boozie Collinz, and a variety of Olympia talent, as simply "AKA." However, as they began to solidify their lineup it became clear that what they had was much bigger than AKA himself. With Josh White on the drums, Joe Pearce on rhythm guitar, Adam Bakotich on lead guitar, and the newest addition James Arson, better known as Mothrider, they became Aka and the heart hurt goods.
In spite of their relatively short time together, AKA and the heart hurt goods have excited regional press coverage, and are recognized as one of the northwest's up and coming artists. Last year they received Fan's pick for 'best solo act' and 'best hip-hop act' at the Oly Music Awards and have opened for artists from Sublime LBC to Macklemore. An eclectic mix of musicians, from various musical backgrounds, AKA & The Heart Hurt Goods project a passion that connects with audiences time and time again. "We make love music - music that stands the test of time," AKA says. "There are so many facets of love that we have the space and room to be creative however we want. There's a real happy, fluffy love, and then there's demented love, so there will always be at least one person to relate."
