A portrait of the Generation of the Great Change, members of the first generation who lived their adult lives in a democratic Poland after the fall of communism.  Born circa 1968, todays 30-somethings were students in 1989.  As a result of the transformation of society, they could make fully independent decisions about their future.  What to do next?  Stay at the university? Make create independent media or non-governmental organizations?  Start their new businesses in branches of industry such as advertising?  Become involved in politics?  Or maybe purge the secret service of communists?  This film is a study of the 1989 generation representatives who grew up in Poland under communism, but entered adulthood when democracy was being established.  Their achievements and defeats, worries and hopes, summarize two decades of freedom in Poland.

WIERA GRAN
2012, 67 min, Poland
Polish with English subtitles
Dir. MARIA ZMARZ-KOCZANOWICZ
It was a human story. The story of an accusation that couldnt be refuted but which also could not be proved; an accusation that Jewish singer Vera Gran performed for the Gestapo and denounced her own people to the Nazis. She had it all. All that a rising star could ask for: beauty, amazing voice and music flowing in her veins. She was so shy at the beginning of her career that she used to perform from behind curtain.   Was she a traitor and collaborator or the victim of resentment and malicious gossip?  This documentary is a tale of a famous and beautiful woman whose life turned into the never-ending escape from her notorius reputation.
