Jazz Celebration with Michael Henderson - A Benefit for Local School Music Programs
Portland Public Schools proudly presents "A Jazz Celebration," featuring internationally renowned Bassist, Singer, Songwriter, Producer and Arranger: The Legendary Michael Henderson. This event will take place on Friday, January 25, 2013, 6:00 PM at Cleveland High School auditorium. Proceeds benefit participating schools' music programs.
Performers will include jazz bands from: Hosford, Sellwood, and Beaumont Middle Schools; Battle Ground (Vancouver) and Cleveland High Schools; and the esteemed American Music Program. Mr Henderson will perform with each of the schools featuring arrangements of his music. The middle school bands will start the show, and the high school groups will begin at 8:30. Proceeds from the show benefit music programs at the participating schools.
Four-time Grammy nominee and recording artist Michael Henderson has worked with such renowned artists as: Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, Miles Davis, Phyllis Hyman, Roberta Flack, Leslie Uggams, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, and Angela Bofil.
At a crucial time for music in public education, we are excited to highlight the benefits of collaboration that engages young musicians and professional performers in an extremely accessible venue. Come one, come all!
