Chicago, IL

Join us on a journey of the imagination!  Stories on Stage, which features some of Chicago's finest actors reading short stories by some of the world's finest authors, is back for a one-time live performance.

Between 1992 and 2007, Stories on Stage presented more than 125 live performances, for many years at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and 130 broadcasts on Chicago Public Radio, featuring selections from those live performances.  If you've missed the show, or if you used to listen to it, but never attended a live performance, here's your chance!

The program, entitled "It's Complicated," will feature readings of three stories about the complexities of family relationships:

"Hell-Heaven" by Jhumpa Lahiri from UNACCUSTOMED EARTH
read by Amira Sabbagh
"Return from the Depot" by Elizabeth Crane from WHEN THE MESSENGER IS HOT
read by Rengin Altay
"Anything Helps" by Jess Walter from THE BEST AMERICAN SHORT STORIES 2012
read by Lance Baker

The program will be directed by long-time Stories on Stage artistic team member,
Cheryl Lynn Bruce, and produced by founder Kathe Telingator.

The Chicago Temple Gospel Choir will perform between 7:10 and 7:30.

Please join us for a reception following the performance featuring:
Southern desserts, donated by Perennial Virant, and Hoosier Mama, among others,
and, tea donated by DAVIDsTEA;
A sneak peek at the trailer for "Under One Roof: A Documentary Film;"
and an opportunity to meet with some of the creative team.
(NOTE: Additional fee required.)

TICKETS MAY BE PURCHASED AT THE DOOR FOR BOTH THE PERFORMANCE AND THE RECEPTION BUT ONLY WITH CASH OR CHECK.  TO PAY BY CREDIT CARD, PLEASE PRE-PURCHASE THE TICKETS BY MONDAY AT MIDNIGHT.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to support the making of "Under One Roof:
A Documentary Film," about the relationships between black housekeepers, their white employers, the white children they may have helped raise, and their own children between the mid 1950s and early 1970s in the North in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement.  Visit www.underoneroofdoc.com for more information.
